Limestone cave (cave)
Kitakyushu City Earth Piece Hiraodai Summer Vacation Senbutsu Cave Hell Tunnel Guided Tour Nature Experience

Opening at the eastern end of Hiraodai, this is a historic limestone cave that was designated a natural monument (nationally) in December 1935. The temperature inside the cave is 16 degrees Celsius and the water temperature is 14 degrees Celsius throughout the year, so it is extremely cool in summer and warm in winter, making it easy for even the elderly and children to explore. The stalactites, stone pillars and stone pillars are remarkably developed and are said to reach several thousand meters in length, but lighting is only provided up to 900m. You can enter the cave in shoes up to 480m from the entrance. Beyond that, the path is called Oku no Hosomichi (Oku no Hosomichi), and the mystical atmosphere of washing your feet in the clear water flowing over a single piece of limestone will captivate the hearts of explorers who visit the cave. In addition to hot food, we also recommend the Karst Manju at Senbutsu Chaya!

Address: 3-2-1 Hiraodai, Kokuraminami-ku, Kitakyushu City / Parking: 100 spaces (free)

We are also planning a cave exploration tour that will take you to the so-called "Hell Tunnel" beyond the lighting facility in the near future!

Kitakyushu City Earth Piece Hiraodai Spring Break Mejiro Cave Cave Exploration Caving Guided Tour

It is a monolithic stalactite that took several thousand years to form, which is rare even in Japan. The ceiling of this rock is thought to be about 20m high, and it is said to be one of the largest in Japan. The beauty of the ceiling, which cannot be seen in other limestone caves, is astonishing. The monolithic ceiling in particular makes it seem man-made. Feel the profound mystery of nature and enjoy the beauty of nature's creations that have been created over tens of millions of years as you see various stalactites in various places.

There is also a campsite on-site, where you can relax and enjoy the magnificent karst scenery that spreads out before your eyes.

Another major feature of this cave is that you can enjoy both tourist caves and caving, where you can explore unvisited caves.

Kitakyushu City Earth Fragment Hiraodai Oshika Cave Caving Guided Tour

The entrance to the cave is a rare vertical tourist cave in Japan, and you have to go down a 30m staircase. At the bottom of the cave is the Beast Bone Hall, where the bones of the now extinct Japanese river otter and Naumann's elephant were discovered. The cobalt blue springs and waterfalls that can be seen at the back of the tourist cave are mystical.
